Though in my opinion, they are bit different as HomeSeer like more newer local home automation platforms tries to provide platform independency while Crestron and Control 4 are more like Homekit, Alexa and Google Assistant that they are ecosystem itself and must be supported by the each devices. HS charges premium price when compared to the other home automation platforms but some review compared HomeSeer to Crestron and Control 4, which are the real premium price home automation systems and compared to those HomeSeer may seem reasonably priced. It started to support Z-wave technology as early as in 2003 while even at the phase of the technology being its infancy.

HomeSeer (HS) was founded in 1999, and has far longer track record than Home Assistant, Hubitat, OpenHab etc.

This is my HomeSeer review using 30 days, functionally unlimited trial version. The main contenders for me were Home Assistant, HomeSeer, openHAB and Hubitat. After my obsessive online research, I have decided to go with local dedicated home automation platform/hub for their performance, security and versatility. But if you want to get the most out of your smart home gadgets - and don't mind a steeper learning curve - then check out the Hubitat.Home Automation platform is my current technology focus therefore, IвЂ™d like to investigate as many options as possible before committing to one. For most smart home owners, it's enough to get the simpler and more user-friendly integrations that come with Samsung's SmartThings or even Amazon's Echo Plus. Update (5/24/19): Hubitat now has a mobile app we will update this review once we've had a chance to test it. Each device or automation gets its own tile you can adjust the color, size and orientation of each.

Instead, you have to use the Dashboard Manager to create a web app from which you can control your smart home devices. Unlike SmartThings, there's no mobile app for the Hubitat Elevation. It's far, far more than you could ever do with SmartThings. In addition to the apps available through the Hubitat interface, you can also create your own apps and integrations, which you can share with other Hubitat users. The Hub found a Centralite Zigbee motion detector, a Centralite Zigbee smart plug and a Leviton Z-wave dimmer plug within a few seconds, but it could not find a Fibaro Z-wave smart plug the Samsung SmartThings hub recognized the Fibaro plug almost instantly.
